Last week I was very privileged to represent Sandalford at the 2009 Australian Film Industry Awards held at The Regent Theatre in Melbourne. Sandalford was the official wine sponsor and we featured our 2009 Margaret River Range Classic Dry White and our 2007 Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The evening was absolutely fantastic and I met some fabulous people. I have also included some unbelievable End of Year wine specials for you. A CHRISTMAS NOTE FROM GRANT BRINKLOW, SANDALFORD WINES CEO
To each valued member of the Sandalford Wine Club,
On behalf of Sandalford’s Directors, the Company’s Proprietors (the Prendiville family) and myself, I extend season’s greetings to you, your family and friends.
With the celebrations about to begin many of you will finally have time to stop, relax and spend quality time with family and friends. Many others will be enjoying the period for religious celebration. For me it is about all this and having opportunity to pause and reflect on what has been a wonderful year for Sandalford Wines.
 Our successes in 2009 have come about in so many ways as a direct result of the quality and calibre of the people in our team and I pay tribute to their commitment, dedication, hard work, passion, loyalty, stewardship, sacrifice, courage, determination, and relentless desire over the last 12 months to see our company fulfill its objectives during a time when many, many organizations around the world during this time have been severely buffeted by the prevailing economic headwinds caused by the GFC and the tougher times that ensued as a consequence. Throughout this period our business has continued to be successful and I thank all our team here for making it so.
Of at least equal importance however, is the wonderful ongoing support and patronage of Sandalford Wines we have received from the thousands of highly valued wine club members throughout Perth, across Western Australia, to all parts of the Australian Continent, and of course the many who are scattered around the globe. To each of you I extend my very sincere thanks for choosing to remain loyal to Sandalford Wines particularly when you do have many other choices available. We really do value and appreciate your loyalty and business generally.
There were many, many highlights and success stories generally at Sandalford in 2009 and the following immediately come to mind:
- The decision by leading Australian wine critic Ray Jordan to award the following:
- PRODUCER OF THE YEAR – SANDALFORD WINES: “The combination of winemaker Paul Boulden and owner Peter Prendiville has proved an awesome double act resulting in outstanding wines across the board”
- WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR – PAUL BOULDEN: “Since taking over at Sandalford a few years ago Boulden has consistently produced outstanding wines, based primarily on one of the oldest Margaret River vineyards. Value for money end seriously over delivers and the new Prendiville Shiraz is a revelation.”
- BEST SHIRAZ – 2008 SANDALFORD PRENDIVILLE SHIRAZ: “This is just so sublimely smooth and seamless on the palate you could be forgiven missing what power and fruit concentration is sitting behind it. One of the finest Margaret River Shiraz I have tasted. Silky and velvety with a deep complexity. 97 points.”
- The 3 TROPHIES awarded to the 2008 Sandalford Margaret River Shiraz at the Australian National Wine Show in Canberra in November and with it the official title of ‘Australia’s greatest red wine’!!!!
- A further GOLD PLATE awarded to the Sandalford Restaurant at the 2009 GOLD PLATE awards ceremony in October;
- The prize for Best Cellar Door and Winery Tourism facility announced at the annual Western Australian Wine Industry Awards ceremony in November;
- The award for Best Winery Tourism Operator in the state announced at Novembers annual Western Australian Tourism Awards; and of course
- That incredible performance by Leonard Cohen at Caversham Estate back in February when he absolutely captivated the hearts and minds of the 12,000 people who attended an incredible, mystical, once in a life time concert performance, as well as a fantastic recent show that saw the B52’s and Proclaimers also play to 12,000 delighted fans.
With an eye to 2010 there is much to look forward to with many new exciting wine releases due, some super concerts to take place (among others Ronan Keating, Tina Arena, the Motown Legends, Jimmy Barnes, Tom Jones, David Campbell have already been announced and will perform in the first quarter – be on the lookout in mid January for a major announcement involving two of the super groups of the 1980’s who will play in mid April and some further incredible show announcements not long after that), as well as many other exciting developments we will tell you more about in due time. Of course we are also excited about 2010 because it will give us reason to celebrate two very important milestones for Sandalford Wines – 170 years since the establishment of business in the Swan Valley ( back in 1840), and 40 years since our first vines were planted in the now world famous Margaret River region. We look forward to sharing these celebrations with you.
In the meantime however on behalf of my family (Sophie, Lily, Charlie and Harry) to you and yours, I say Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Healthy, Happy, Successful and Prosperous New Year.
